Platts assessed PP raffia grade for the Indian sub-continent at 1175 USD/MT, up 75 USD/MT on the week (+6.82%). That is the sharpest weekly gain since March, and it ends the four-week slide that ran through late June. Raffia now sits 85 USD/MT above the 1090 low of 08 July.

Crude drove it. Brent settled the assessment week at 91.50 USD/bbl, an 8.28% rise and a third consecutive weekly gain, leaving it 23.6% above the 74.00 low of 01 July. A supply risk premium has returned to the crude market, and naphtha-linked polymer costs have followed with the usual short lag.

Ocean freight is moving the same way. Drewry's World Container Index reached 4,639 USD per forty-foot container on 9 July, its highest reading since September 2024, on rising charges across the Asia-Europe lanes. It eased 2% to 4,547 USD the following week as peak-season momentum began to level off. Even after that, the index stands roughly 61% above the same point last year, with tight capacity and early peak-season demand holding spot rates up. Longer routings via the Cape of Good Hope add one to two weeks on affected services, and bunker costs are up by around two-thirds since February.

For buyers the point is that two separate input costs are climbing together. Resin has turned up from its July low, and delivered freight is holding near multi-year highs.

Both inputs have moved the same way this month, which makes offers written a few weeks apart harder to compare directly. Where timing allows, it can help to ask which resin cost a quote is built on and how long it holds.
