Platts assessed PP raffia grade for the Indian sub-continent at approximately 1250 USD/MT, unchanged for a third consecutive week (confirm exact figure and WoW). After the 160 USD/MT climb off the 08 July low, the grade has settled into a plateau. It sits about 14% below April's 1460 peak and well above the 1090 July trough.
Crude moved underneath it without disturbing the level. Brent recovered to around 88 USD/bbl (confirm), roughly 10% above its early-August low near 80, reversing the dip that followed the late-July high. Raffia held flat across that entire swing, from 82 down to 80 and back to 88, which says the market has found a level it is comfortable defending around 1250.
Two weeks ago the read here was that resin would soften into late August if crude stayed near 80. Crude did not stay near 80, so that call is set aside. The feedstock pull to the downside has gone for now, and the plateau has support beneath it.
For buyers the picture has steadied. Resin has stopped falling without turning higher, and freight has levelled after its slide. A quote at 1250 today reflects a settled market, so the pressure to time the week is lower than it was through July. Crude is the line to watch. Another leg up from 88 would lift resin off its plateau on the usual delay, while a fresh drop would reopen the softening case.
