PP Raffia at 1360 USD/MT, week ending 16 September 2026
Platts PP raffia grade for the Indian sub-continent rose 35 USD/MT to 1360 (+2.64%), resuming its climb after last week's brief pause and reaching its highest level since the spring. The grade has now recovered 270 USD/MT, about 25%, from the 1090 low of early July, and sits roughly 7% below April's 1460 peak.
Crude was the driver, and it moved hard. Brent jumped 10.71% to 108.50 USD/bbl, clearing 100 for the first time in months in a single large weekly step. Last week's flat print in raffia now reads as the lag at work rather than a ceiling, since resin picked up again as soon as the earlier crude strength fed through.
The gap between the two has widened this week. Resin at 1360 reflects crude of a week or two ago, when Brent was in the mid-90s. This week's jump to 108 has not yet passed through, so on the tracker's history there is more upward pressure still in the pipeline if oil holds its new level.
The read ahead rests on whether crude holds. A move of this size feeding through the lag would keep firm upward pressure on resin over the coming weeks. The caution is that Brent has spiked and reversed before in this cycle, most recently in late July, so a fast gain to 108 is not the same as a settled 108. If oil holds, resin has further to run. If it gives the move back, the climb stalls on the usual delay.
For buyers the balance is firmly to the upside for now. Crude is at a multi-month high and resin has not yet caught up, with freight holding near its own summer high. Delivered cost is at its firmest since the spring and the near-term risk points higher. For known requirements the case for fixing sooner has strengthened, and it remains worth confirming which resin position a quote is built on and how long both the resin and freight components hold.
