Platts PP raffia grade for the Indian sub-continent rose a further 20 USD/MT to 1290 (+1.57%), a second consecutive weekly gain of the same size. The grade has added 40 USD/MT since breaking its three-week plateau at 1250, and it sits roughly 12% below April's 1460 peak and 200 USD/MT above the 1090 low of early July.
Crude has moved the other way. Brent was trading around 87 USD/bbl, down from the 91 it reached last week, a pullback of roughly 4% from that recovery high. Resin rising while crude slips is the same lag that appeared in late July. Offers are still catching up to the crude strength of the past fortnight, when Brent climbed back to 91, so resin can keep firming for a week or two after crude turns.
Freight is the input pulling hardest this week. Carriers are holding capacity tight through blank sailings, with space further constrained by lower sailings on the Asia-US routes. That is a third straight weekly rise, and the index has recovered most of its July decline to sit within about 3% of that peak. Delivered cost is climbing even where resin holds steady.
The read ahead turns on whether crude has topped. If Brent stays in the high 80s or eases further, resin's rise should stall within a week or two as the lag catches up, leaving raffia near current levels. A sharper drop in crude would reopen the softening case on the usual delay. Freight works against that, so even a resin plateau need not bring delivered cost down.
For buyers, resin and freight are no longer moving in their favour together. Resin offers are near a local high and freight is climbing back towards its summer peak, so a delivered quote today reflects firmer conditions on both counts than at any time since early July. Where a requirement is known, fixing the number sooner carries less timing risk than waiting, and it is worth confirming which resin position each quote is built on and how long the freight component holds.
